About Heineken Africa Foundation Grant

Heineken Africa Foundation Grant invests in community ambitions to support our strategy, sustainability responsibilities and direct local donations.

The Foundation has contributed EUR10.7 million towards 119 projects, 39 of which are still in operation.

It also approved seven additional projects, with a combined investment of nearly EUR720,000. These include the renovations of mother and child health units at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Lubumbashi (DRC) and equipment for a Benin City, Nigeria, neonatal intensive-care unit. Three additional projects will provide drinking water for communities in Burundi, Sierra Leone and other countries.

The Foundation has been able to develop strong expertise in Mother & Child Healthcare and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene over the years. These areas are vital for the first years of life, and they are interdependent. Small improvements can make a huge difference in communities’ lives, both now and into the future.

Although the world’s poverty rates have fallen by more than half in 2000, only one in ten of those living in developing countries live below the international poverty level, with less than US$1.90 per day. The majority of people below the poverty line, up to 42% of the total population, live in Southern Asia and sub Saharan Africa.

Moreover, one in nine people (or 815 million) in the world are malnourished today. 3 in 10 people don’t have access to water.

Heineken is also committed to making positive contributions to the communities in which they live, source, work and sell their products.
